Operations, Special Operations & Emergency Management

Operations

The Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District (CSFD) provides all-risk emergency response and life safety services to the communities of Carpinteria and Summerland, California.  Staffed year around with a career workforce of 28 safety personnel, our firefighters and firefighter paramedics respond to structure and wildland fires; vehicle accidents and hazardous material spills; cliff-side, swift water and ocean rescues; medical emergencies and public calls for service; and natural and human-caused disasters.

In addition to daily Fire District readiness and response, CSFD's Operations Division oversees the District's hazardous material and water rescue programs.  Our hazardous materials specialists and technicians respond to both in-district calls for service and hazardous materials emergencies throughout Southern Santa Barbara County,  CSFD's water rescue team consists of 12 firefighters who are trained in both open-ocean and swift water technical rescue.  Our personnel are training to perform swim, paddle board, water craft and small boat rescue operations.

Finally, the Operations Division works closely with both the City of Carpinteria and the County of Santa Barbara on emergency and disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.  District personnel participate in local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and work with community stakeholders and partnering agencies on emergency alerting and public education.

"The extreme timeliness of the crew's response was actually a giant benefit and we will never need to know what great damage she would have experienced had the response not been so very rapid."
